Hello! My name is David Simcox, and I am your candidate for councillor for Crewe West Ward.

From Merrills Avenue to Queens Park Drive, Victoria Avenue to Alton Street, Stewart Street, Capesthorn Road to Langley Drive, and all the roads and communities in between – we are all part of Crewe West Ward.
I am committed to working for local residents to tackle issues from underfunding such as potholes, litter, fly-tipping, parking problems, street lighting, and anti-social behaviour to make our area better.
I’ve lived in Crewe all my life, I have always called the West End of Crewe my home. I am deeply committed to our community. I see firsthand the challenges we face, and I believe that together, we can turn things around.
During my time as a Citizens Advice Bureau advisor, I helped people through difficult times, providing benefit checks, debt advice, and court liaison services. This experience taught me the importance of support and advocacy.
My Commitment
- Financial Stability: Our council faces a potential budget deficit of £12.8 million. As a business owner, I understand the importance of spending resources wisely, avoiding waste, and budgeting correctly. Your vote can help prioritise spending where it matters most to you and your family.
- Education Improvement: Several schools in Crewe have been rated “Requires Improvement” by Ofsted. Our children deserve better, and we need to ensure this trend does not affect other schools in Crewe West. I will advocate for better funding and resources to ensure our children receive the quality education they deserve.
- Waste Management: The Labour council’s proposal for three-weekly bin collections is a serious concern. This decision risks increased rat infestations and other health hazards. I will stand up against this impractical proposal and fight for regular waste collections to ensure our community remains clean and safe.
- Housing Developments: Labour’s plan to reduce planning restrictions and increase housing will strain our already stretched services. I have worked tirelessly to make the Coppenhall Place Estate safer and better for all residents, advocating for better management and stricter enforcement of pre-conditions.

Voting is your chance to make a real difference. Let’s turn things around for Crewe West. Your vote matters. Your voice matters. Together, we can achieve great things.
Here’s what I’ve been up to recently…
Cllr Roger Morris has been putting in the work for Crewe Central over the past year, and I’ve been proud to work alongside him to help residents get the answers and action they deserve.
There’s still a long way to go, but real change starts with people who care about fixing problems—not just talking about them. Looking forward to another year of getting things done!

🚨 Cheshire East Wanted to Raise Council Tax by 9.9%—But Was Blocked 🚨
💰 Cheshire East Council asked the government for permission to raise your council tax by 9.9%—but their request was rejected.
The council says this was “just one option” to fix their finances, but residents weren’t even asked what they thought before they tried to push through a near-10% hike.
🔍 Now that the request has been blocked, they’ll need to revise their financial plans, and discussions will take place at the next council meetings:
📅 Key dates to watch:
📌 6 February 2025 – The Corporate Policy Committee will discuss the proposed budget & financial strategy.
📌 26 February 2025 – The full council will meet to approve the final budget and any council tax changes.
📊 But here’s the question—shouldn’t we be asking where the money is going before they ask for even more?
❓ What do you think?
Would a near-10% council tax increase have affected you?
Should the council be more transparent about its spending before demanding residents pay more?
What services do you think we’re paying more for, but getting less of?
📢 The council will now have to make tough financial decisions—should we be demanding more transparency before they start cutting services or finding other ways to raise money?
Cheshire East: Almost 10% council tax hike rejected by government
The Cheshire East authority's request to increase council tax by 9.9% is refused.
🚨 Cheshire East Wanted a 9.9% Council Tax Hike—Government Said No 🚨
Cheshire East Council tried to raise your council tax by 9.9%, but the government has rejected their request.
The council says this was "just one option" to fix their finances—but residents were never asked before they tried to push through a near-10% hike. Now that the government has blocked it, they must revise their financial plans before the budget is approved on 26 February.
💰 Shouldn’t we be asking where the money is going before they ask for even more?
🔎 The key questions now:
1️⃣ Why did they push for this increase instead of cutting waste elsewhere?
2️⃣ What’s their new plan—will services be cut, or are there other options?
3️⃣ Why weren’t residents consulted before they tried to push this through?
❓ How would a near-10% council tax rise have affected you? Do you trust the council to manage its budget properly?
📣 The council still has big financial decisions to make—should we be demanding more transparency before they look for more ways to increase revenue?

🚨 Where’s the missing pothole funding?
Did you know Cheshire East Council got £5.8 million in 2022/23 to fix potholes, but only £2 million was actually spent? 💰Where did the rest go?
Meanwhile, roads in Crewe are worse than ever. If the money is there, why isn’t it being used properly?
Cheshire East Council, @Councillor Mark Goldsmith and Laura Crane for Ettiley Heath & Wheelock Can you explain why this money isn’t being fully used to fix our roads? People in Crewe are fed up with dodging craters instead of potholes!
🚧 Have you noticed potholes that haven’t been fixed? Drop the location below—let’s get a full picture of the worst roads in Crewe! Photos welcome!

✨ Working Together for a Cleaner Crewe! ✨
On the 27th, we joined Crewe, St Barnabas – Councillor James Pratt and a brilliant team of community volunteers for a few hours of litter-picking at Leighton Brook Park. 🏞️🌿
It was wonderful to see residents of all ages come together, showing true community spirit. Together, we collected around 20 bags of waste – including some unusual items, like a ride-on car 🚗!
James is a dedicated councillor who’s clearly passionate about making a difference in his ward. It was fantastic to team up with him and so many others committed to keeping our public spaces clean and beautiful. 🌟
We’d also like to join James in thanking Ansa Environmental Services Ltd for their support in collecting the waste. 🙌
This event was a great reminder of what we can achieve when we work together. 💪 We’re On It! 💖

🌨️ Check on Your Neighbours! 🌨️
With temperatures dropping this week, it's more important than ever to check on our elderly and vulnerable neighbours and family members. 🧣❄️
The recent cuts to the Winter Fuel Payment by Labour have left many pensioners without vital support, increasing the risk of fuel poverty among the elderly. This is unacceptable, especially during such cold weather.
If you or someone you know is struggling to keep warm, help is available:
Cold Weather Payment: Eligible individuals can receive £25 for each 7-day period of very cold weather.
Warm Home Discount: A one-off £150 discount on electricity bills for those on certain benefits.
Household Support Fund: Support provided by local councils in various forms.
Age UK Advice Line: Call 0800 678 1602 for free advice, 8am-7pm, 365 days a year.
British Red Cross Support Line: Call 0808 196 3651 if isolated due to snow or ice.
Let’s come together as a community to ensure everyone's safety during this cold snap. Stay warm and reach out for help if needed. ❄️🤝
