🌳 Residents Deserve Answers – And We're Asking the Right Questions 🗂️
You may have seen this article in Crewe Nub News today:
📰 Row over proposed new entrance to Pocket Park in Crewe
There’s been a lot of concern raised by residents over the decision to put a new entrance on Bright Street, especially when the alternative, Richard Moon Street, was strongly preferred by many in the community.
Cllr Roger Morris has now written to Cllr Mick Warren, Chair of the Environment & Communities Committee, to request the full evaluation documents. We’re asking for: 🔍 The feasibility study and all entrance options
🌳 Tree and excavation assessments
⚠️ Public safety risk reports
♿ Accessibility and Equality Impact Assessments
We’re not here to block progress, we just want to make sure that the decisions being made reflect reality on the ground and are based on proper evidence. Residents deserve transparency and respect, especially when it comes to changes that impact their everyday lives.
Thank you to everyone who’s raised concerns. Cllr Crewe Central Ward – Roger Morris is listening, and we’ll keep pushing.

Absolutely gutted to see this dumped on St Paul’s Street near Jubilee Gardens — right in the middle of our town centre.
This isn’t just fly-tipping — it’s dangerous. Pavement blocked, road obstructed, and total disregard for our community. 😡🧱

🚫 Fly-tipping behind West Street – SORTED! ✅
Spotted this mess during Sunday’s walkaround with Crewe Central Ward – Roger Morris, and I’m really pleased to say it’s now been cleared up. Big thanks to the team at Cheshire East Council for getting on it so quickly. 👏

I want to thank Cllr Gardener for bravely speaking out in this article about the serious failings in Cheshire East’s planning enforcement system: www.northwichguardian.co.uk/news/25046575.cheshire-east-needs-deal-planning-enforcement-properly/ As a resident and spokesperson for the Coppenhall Place Residents Group, I’ve seen the damage this broken system can cause, families left in limbo, stress, lost trust, and in some cases, financial hardship. It’s not good enough.
We fully support calls for a proper enforcement protocol to be put in place, something that ensures transparency, consistency, and above all, protection for residents when things go wrong. Too many people have already suffered in silence.
I’ll continue to stand with Cllr Gardener and others calling for change, and I’ll do everything I possibly can to make sure this never happens to anyone else again.
Council ‘must deal with planning enforcement properly’ after massive blunder
A councillor has called for Cheshire East to look into how it deals with enforcement after a planning blunder left residents living in a 263-home…
👣 Great to be out and about in Crewe Central today with Crewe Central Ward – Roger Morris
We spent the late morning and afternoon walking the ward, listening to residents’ concerns, and having real conversations about how we can make our neighbourhood better. From housing issues to road safety and the state of our public spaces – it’s clear that local people care and want to see change.
🚮 Sadly, we also came across scenes like this – vandalism in the play area, paint thrown around, and benches surrounded by litter and empty cans.
🔒 One of the playground gates has now been chained shut – not the solution anyone wants, but a reflection of how serious the situation has become.
🛝 We also spoke to residents near Bright Street Park, who raised valid concerns about community safety and the location of the proposed new entrance. We’re going to look into how we can support them and make sure their voices are heard as plans for the park move forward.
💬 Thanks to everyone who took the time to speak with us today. Your voices matter, and we’ll keep pushing for action and improvements across the ward.
If you see issues in your area, please report them on FixMyStreet – or speak to us directly. We’re here, we’re listening, and we hope you can see how we truly do care.

After 2 years of uncertainty and distress, we're thrilled to share that the 263 families of Coppenhall Place can finally find peace in their homes. The strategic planning board has approved the necessary permissions, rectifying the oversights that left our community in limbo.
Claire McLellan and I have been with you every step of this journey. We've stood shoulder to shoulder, ensuring that your voices were heard and that the authorities addressed the critical issues affecting our neighbourhood. Your resilience and determination have been nothing short of inspiring.
This achievement underscores the power of community and the importance of holding developers and councils accountable. Together, we've turned a challenging chapter into a testament of collective strength.
Let's continue to support one another and ensure that such oversights are a thing of the past. Here's to a brighter, more secure future for all residents of Coppenhall Place! We can finally make our homes truly our own.

What’s happened here is heartbreaking. 💔🛝
As someone who’s grown up in Crewe, I know how much places like this mean to families. They’re more than play areas—they’re part of what makes a community feel safe and alive.
To see Derby Street Park destroyed like this by mindless vandalism is deeply upsetting. It’s not just about a slide—it’s about what we’re losing bit by bit to anti-social behaviour.
I’ve shared Cllr Roger Morris’ post because he’s saying what so many of us are thinking. We need action—not just sympathy—and I fully back him in pushing for repairs, security, and accountability.
This isn’t just about fixing a slide. It’s about standing up for our community before more spaces like this are lost.
Crewe deserves better. Our kids deserve better.

A Labour councillor voting against a Labour budget—because it failed the very people who put him there. That takes guts. That’s what I respect and expect.
We need more of this—people who put principle before party, and residents before politics.
Here in Cheshire East, Labour is pushing council tax to the legal maximum, cutting winter fuel payments, and warning that services will get even worse next year. Add to that the rise in National Insurance—we’ve yet to feel the full consequences of that—and it’s no wonder people feel squeezed from all sides.
And for what? Higher bills. Worse services. Less support.
This is why people feel like giving up. Like voting won’t change anything. But this proves it can. One person stood up and said, “No. This isn’t right.”
If we had more like him—more councillors who speak up, challenge bad decisions, and truly represent the people who elected them—we could start turning things around.
🌟 Huge Success at the Crewe Jobs Fair! 🌟
Great to see Crewe Market Hall packed with job seekers and employers at the Crewe Jobs Fair! With businesses from sectors like retail, hospitality, emergency services, and local trade, it was a brilliant opportunity for residents to explore new careers and gain insight into available roles.
Events like this are essential for our town—bringing together people looking for work with businesses eager to recruit. There was a real buzz in the hall, showing just how much appetite there is for employment and skills development in Crewe.
A big thank you to Cheshire East Council and Jobcentre Plus for making this event happen. I also had the chance to catch up with Cllr Roger Morris, who continues to support initiatives that create real opportunities for residents.
Let’s keep pushing for more investment, better job opportunities, and a stronger future for Crewe!

Cllr Roger Morris has been putting in the work for Crewe Central over the past year, and I’ve been proud to work alongside him to help residents get the answers and action they deserve.
There’s still a long way to go, but real change starts with people who care about fixing problems—not just talking about them. Looking forward to another year of getting things done!

🚨 Cheshire East Wanted to Raise Council Tax by 9.9%—But Was Blocked 🚨
💰 Cheshire East Council asked the government for permission to raise your council tax by 9.9%—but their request was rejected.
The council says this was “just one option” to fix their finances, but residents weren’t even asked what they thought before they tried to push through a near-10% hike.
🔍 Now that the request has been blocked, they’ll need to revise their financial plans, and discussions will take place at the next council meetings:
📅 Key dates to watch:
📌 6 February 2025 – The Corporate Policy Committee will discuss the proposed budget & financial strategy.
📌 26 February 2025 – The full council will meet to approve the final budget and any council tax changes.
📊 But here’s the question—shouldn’t we be asking where the money is going before they ask for even more?
❓ What do you think?
Would a near-10% council tax increase have affected you?
Should the council be more transparent about its spending before demanding residents pay more?
What services do you think we’re paying more for, but getting less of?
📢 The council will now have to make tough financial decisions—should we be demanding more transparency before they start cutting services or finding other ways to raise money?
Cheshire East: Almost 10% council tax hike rejected by government
The Cheshire East authority's request to increase council tax by 9.9% is refused.
🚨 Cheshire East Wanted a 9.9% Council Tax Hike—Government Said No 🚨
Cheshire East Council tried to raise your council tax by 9.9%, but the government has rejected their request.
The council says this was "just one option" to fix their finances—but residents were never asked before they tried to push through a near-10% hike. Now that the government has blocked it, they must revise their financial plans before the budget is approved on 26 February.
💰 Shouldn’t we be asking where the money is going before they ask for even more?
🔎 The key questions now:
1️⃣ Why did they push for this increase instead of cutting waste elsewhere?
2️⃣ What’s their new plan—will services be cut, or are there other options?
3️⃣ Why weren’t residents consulted before they tried to push this through?
❓ How would a near-10% council tax rise have affected you? Do you trust the council to manage its budget properly?
📣 The council still has big financial decisions to make—should we be demanding more transparency before they look for more ways to increase revenue?

🚨 Where’s the missing pothole funding?
Did you know Cheshire East Council got £5.8 million in 2022/23 to fix potholes, but only £2 million was actually spent? 💰Where did the rest go?
Meanwhile, roads in Crewe are worse than ever. If the money is there, why isn’t it being used properly?

✨ Working Together for a Cleaner Crewe! ✨
On the 27th, we joined Crewe, St Barnabas – Councillor James Pratt and a brilliant team of community volunteers for a few hours of litter-picking at Leighton Brook Park. 🏞️🌿
It was wonderful to see residents of all ages come together, showing true community spirit. Together, we collected around 20 bags of waste – including some unusual items, like a ride-on car 🚗!
James is a dedicated councillor who’s clearly passionate about making a difference in his ward. It was fantastic to team up with him and so many others committed to keeping our public spaces clean and beautiful. 🌟
We’d also like to join James in thanking Ansa Environmental Services Ltd for their support in collecting the waste. 🙌
This event was a great reminder of what we can achieve when we work together. 💪 We’re On It! 💖

🌨️ Check on Your Neighbours! 🌨️
With temperatures dropping this week, it's more important than ever to check on our elderly and vulnerable neighbours and family members. 🧣❄️
The recent cuts to the Winter Fuel Payment by Labour have left many pensioners without vital support, increasing the risk of fuel poverty among the elderly. This is unacceptable, especially during such cold weather.
If you or someone you know is struggling to keep warm, help is available:
Cold Weather Payment: Eligible individuals can receive £25 for each 7-day period of very cold weather.
Warm Home Discount: A one-off £150 discount on electricity bills for those on certain benefits.
Household Support Fund: Support provided by local councils in various forms.

British Red Cross Support Line: Call 0808 196 3651 if isolated due to snow or ice.
Let’s come together as a community to ensure everyone's safety during this cold snap. Stay warm and reach out for help if needed. ❄️🤝
